5 matchesHow soccer betting works
Three-way moneyline (1X2). Three outcomes, not two: home win, draw or away win, each with its own price. A bet on a team loses if the match is drawn. About one match in four ends level, so a favorite at 50% is a long way from a sure thing.
Double chance. Two of the three outcomes in one bet (home or draw, away or draw). Safer, so it pays less. "Draw no bet" refunds your stake on a draw.
Asian handicap (the "spread"). A head start in goals that removes the draw. −0.5 means the team must win; +0.5 means a draw is fine too. Whole numbers (−1) return your stake if the team wins by exactly that many. Quarter lines (−0.25, −0.75) split your stake across the two nearest lines, so a half-win or a half-loss is possible.
Totals (over/under). Goals by both teams, usually 2.5: over needs three or more. Soccer is low-scoring; a typical league match has 2.5 to 3 goals.
90 minutes. Bets are settled on the score after 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalties in a knockout tie don't count, so a cup tie decided on penalties is a draw for betting (and in our Pick'em).
